Asset management – creation of graphics for First Choice Labels Limited.

First Choice Labels are a successful label company situated on Kirkleatham Business Park In Redcar, Cleveland.

Simon originally built their website for them a few years ago however they came back to us a few weeks ago stating that they wanted changes and improvements to the graphics on the home screen.

if you take a look at the home screen of the website (http://www.firstchoicelabels.co.uk/) you will see that i have created some new graphics.

The resolution of the images was found by using a web developer attribute plug-in through Mozilla Firefox and the pictures were then optimised for web in a JPEG format.

Although this video does not directly tick off parts of my apprenticeship it must be stated that :

At the beginning i show an understanding of health and safety as i talk about making sure the computer is disconnected when i am using it, and also that i must be earthed before touching any of the components.

My technical knowledge, and also the fact that i am working on creating a more efficient work situation for myself.

Saltburn Bomb Scare Helps Eye Magazine To Visitor Success!

After arriving back from my dinner hour at roughly 2:30PM yesterday afternoon i received information from Yvette (one of the sales team ( peer communication )) that her friend who resides in Saltburn had noticed an area of the sea-front had been sealed off from public access due to a suspicious woman undergoing suspicious activity.

As soon as I heard the news i quickly did a search for any information on Twitter & Google and immediately began to write an article on theeyemagazine.co.uk summing all the little particles of information up together in one clear, concise report. As soon as i had created a very bare, yet to the point report i then created a featured image for the article by screen-shotting an image of saltburn via Google street view. As soon as the article was published live at roughly 2:45PM in immediately attempting to reel in the visitors…

The Art of Driving Traffic From Twitter…

When i logged into Twitter i noticed that although there had been some mention of the incident nobody had any real clear understanding of what was going on in saltburn. Through the use of some well worded Tweets i was able to expose our story & link to the masses, driving traffic to the article.

Use of words in capitals such as GUNWOMAN & SALTBURN helped my posts receive massive attention as people were searching for information on the incident.

When the news first arrived i quickly posted a tweet stating that “news will follow shortly”. This was a good tactic because it let people know that we were in a posistion of information, so that they know information will come from us on the incident.

Shortly after the events above the saltburn twitter news became a top UK trend, meaning it was becoming major news. When i heard this news i quickly posted new information making sure relevant keywords were used, eventually some of the Eye Magazine posts became top tweets on the trend wall, a pivotal moment in driving traffic to our website.

As the events unfolded and new things happened i continued to update the article and re-post new information on twitter keeping people completely up-to-date. As well as posting information i also had people asking me for news, an indication that people were interested in the situation.

The article was written at quarter to 3 PM and by 9 o’clock at night when the incident concluded the report had had over 500 views.

I was very proud of this and i enjoyed keeping up-to-date on the news article. Updating the article and posting breaking news on the website was exciting and it was incredibly satisfying to watch the article views increase by the minute.

Hopefully now people on twitter will take more notice of the eye magazine and the information that it possesses.

We hope in the future more breaking news hits our ears early so we can get information out there and notify the area.

Google me this, Google me that…

Proof that the hours of search engine optimisation on the Eye Magazine website have pulled off.

If you Google image search “Councillor Olwyn Peters” (the name of the councillor of Redcar) on the first page of the Google Image listings you will see two images i have taken myself personally for a shoot at Zetland park.

This means that the search engine optimisation we have put into the website is pulling off and also that my photos were good enough and relevant enough to make page 1 of the listings.

Below are the pictures that i took on Simons SLR Canon during the shoot:

Hopefully we can continue to optimise the site so more searches of the local area come up on the front pages of Google Images.

Magazine report – January editions

Introduction

This month saw hardly any major changes but simply a few minor instead. A lot of the companies that had christmas and similar things related to their advert changed this either back to normal or to a new year message for the January edition.

Redcar Local Answer issue 106

Rachaels fitness: Rachaels fitness sent an e-mail in before christmas detailing a breakdown of her new fitness timetable and the new classes that she will be running. I then opened the pre-existant document on indesign and proceeded to add the new times and prices. On top of this the client also wanted a name change and one of two logos that she sent over adding to the document, because of the name change i then had to go back into photoshop and change the background image (deleting the white streaks behind the woman and replacing them with orange ones) so that the white title could be easily read by everybody.

The main issue with this full page advert is the fact that the client wants a lot of different information adding because she needs to advertise her timetable of when her classes are available.

The upside to this setup is that the times are in an organised fashion however if the client decides that she wants to add more times and venues to her advert there will be a real problem distributing everything on the advert at a size which is readable to all of the magazine without difficulty.

The January edition of the Local Answers saw the launch of the new “why advertise” sections which will post a reason every month stating to the clients and readers why local advertising is pivotal to the success of a company. In this months reason 1 states how you should “advertise to make more sales” because this keeps your company “fresh in the mind of the consumer”. We are hoping this new strategy to advertising advertisements works well.

Why advertise – Page 29

Stockton Local Answer issue 22

Before christmas a client representative of slimming world contacted us about launching a new half page advertisement in the January edition of the local answer. The positive thing about slimming world advertisements is the fact that you must strictly follow the guidelines set by slimming world through the PDF on their website. To complete this advert i simply ventured to the website and downloaded the outline and colour scheme which i dropped straight into an advert after selecting the dimensions which i wanted. Once the main body of the advert was complete i then searched to find the times for the new slimming world classes in the correct font and order. Once this was complete i then sent the client the advert so that it could be checked on their end,due to the fact that they are very strict about their advertising guidelines.

The thornberry advert was a simple change which required me to take the transparent christmas tree out of the background of the advert. In advertising it is crucial that you keep uptodate as advert which seem to “lag behind” are often ignored by the reader for an advert which stays recent, fresh and interesting.

Saltburn Local Answer issue 83

During deadline week for the creation of the local answers the sales manager (emma) got a call from a new client who wanted a half page advertisement in the magazine. Whilst Simon was working on the eye magazine i set about creating the half page advert for M CHAMPMAN plumbing and heating.

The client sent over no images or any real idea of sorts, but he did request an orange colour scheme and that an image would be placed in the advert.

An idea clicked for me straight away and i created the advert which appeared in the book, proofed it and e-mailed it to the client and received a very positve response.

I am very proud of how this advert looks and also of how i used my initiative to create a nice successful advertisement in the pressure filled time that is deadline week.

The Eye Magazine issue 31

This months eye magazine saw the introduction of the second article that i have written for the magazine since i started. This article, clevery titled by myself “101 – a new number with a 999 ring to it…” appears on page 14 of the mgazine and talks about the new police number set to be launched across the country.

The article didnt take me very long to write however i am proud that something i have written has appeared in the magazine because i always enjoyed writing and the idea of journalism was always something i contemplated before choosing a media career path.

On page 29 (in the double spread kids section) the picture of the girl who won the colour in competition the month before. Me and Simon visited this girl at her house to take the picture which appears in the magazine. The certificate that she is holding was created by myself and sees her drawing included.
